sôhkikâpawiw - Stands Firm
I carved this piece while thinking about all the wars going on overseas. I was thinking about the military and the citizens being forced to stand up for themselves to defend their homeland.
Pouring water on the stone helps to show the colours, the veins and the patterns.
I still didn’t know what to carve at this stage. This is my “What you like to become?” stage.

Make it stand out
The legs are hand carved out of basswood and the blue base is from an old thick fence board.
Make it stand out
I was surprised at how dark the stone became after applying clear wax. It has gold coloured flakes in the dark black areas.
